Australian Sheep & Wool show Dorper sale postponed due to low entries

This year's Dorper sale as part of the Australian Sheep & Wool Show has been cancelled due to low entry numbers.
Dorper Sheep Society of Australia spokesperson Tanya Edson, Keith, SA, said due to the time of the year, there were not enough entries for the annual sale.
"We have decided to postpone it and maybe move it into a warmer time of the year," she said.
"Our new agents, McKean McGregor, Bendigo, wanted to make it a big feature, but we only had 10 entrants."
The society and McKean McGregor will now look at holding the sale in February or March in the Riverina.
Ms Edson said last year's sale had been very successful, with Dorpers going to four states.
"We've got three new studs here this year from NSW, who only came to show," she said.
"We will offer it again next year, and if we get more than 20 entries, we will run with it."
Ms Edson said the sale was run to offer smaller breeders an opportunity to sell their sheep.
"Seeing this was like a showcase of Dorpers, that's originally why we started the sale, but now a lot of people have their own on-property sales and retain their rams and ewes for the national sale in Dubbo, NSW, in September," she said.
NSW studs took out the White Dorper and Dorper supreme ribbons at this year's show.
