Birdsville buyer selects one third of Tycolah's draft, studs active at top end
A western Queensland operation secured one third of the catalogue at the annual Tycolah Poll Hereford sale at Cobbadah on July 18.
Fresh off the back of 30 millimetres of overnight rain, Tycolah sold to an equal $20,000 top and welcomed both new and return clients.

A significant buyer was Charles Weyman-Jones, Roma, Qld, who was bidding on behalf of Birdsville's Brook Pastoral Company.
The operation's draft of 17 averaged $6059.
Brook Pastoral, which supplies organic beef, also purchased bulls the day before at Bowen Poll Herefords.
Studs were operating at the top end, with the first top-priced bull selling to Kelly and Teeny Runzer, Tenaru Poll Herefords, Goondiwindi, Qld.
Tycolah Woodbine U123 was the junior champion bull at this year's Sydney Royal.
By Tycolah Queenscliff N029 and out of Tycolah Min Q22, a Koanui Techno 6179 daughter, the August-2023 drop bull weighed 942 kilograms and scanned 23 and 15 millimetres over the rump and rib, respectively, with 134 square centimetres eye muscle area and 7.1 per cent intramuscular fat.
Ms Runzer said they had been prepared to pay more for the bull, which would be used over stud females.
"He's just a lovely type - lovely structure and we loved the meat through his hind end," she said.
"He's got the skin and coat type that we really like where we are."
It was Tenaru's first time buying from the stud, but Ms Runzer said Tycolah bred similar cattle and Woodbine would fit right in with their herd.
Tycolah retained semen.

The second equal-top priced bull was Tycolah Weatherman U116, by Yavenvale Rainmaker R464 and out of Tycolah Corisande M050.
Also an August drop, the 854kg bull had a -5.3 gestation length breeding value and +3.3 for birthweight.
He sold to return buyers Johno Martin and Emma Bowman, Tin Man Farming Trust, Dunedoo.
The pair said they were taken with the bull's overall type and favoured Tycolah sires for their docility.
Weatherman U116, in which Tycolah also retained semen, would provide the operation with outcross genetics.
Online bidder Nutrien Biloela selected the $16,000 Tycolah Wayfarer U121, by Queenscliff N029 and out of Tycolah Min N101.
Tycolah Wondoola U075, by Tycolah Undoolya S022 and out of Tycolah Corisande J98, was the top pick for online bidder Undoolya Station, Alice Springs, NT.
The operation also bought two other bulls for $7000 and $6000.
Three sires sold for $12,000.
Taronga Poll Herefords, Paschendale, Vic, selected Tycolah Walhallow U141, who was part of Tycolah's winning pair of bulls at Sydney Royal alongside Woodbine U123.
The August-2023 drop was by The Ranch Qualifier Q033 and out of Tycolah Countess M117.
Tycolah Walgett U002, by Allendale Bingara K184, was another $12,000 sale. He was bought by AG Smith and Company, Barraba.
Tarakan Pastoral Company, Bingara, outlaid $12,000 for Tycolah War Cloud U114, another Yavenvale Rainmaker R464 son.
Staines Partnership, Wandoan, Qld, selected three bulls averaging $6667.
All up, 43 of 50 Poll Herefords averaged $7744, while one of three Brafords sold for $6000. Additional lots sold post sale.
The Cottage offered four bulls, included in the overall results, which averaged $6250.
Steve Crowley, Tycolah, said the clearance was pleasing for a tougher year and he thanked return buyers for their support.
He said Tycolah had sold bulls to Brook Pastoral through the years, but never a draft that large.
Nutrien conducted the sale with guest auctioneer Paul Dooley, Tamworth. AuctionsPlus provided the online interface.
