Victorian Winter Fair

The Bendigo Exhibition Centre hosted the Victorian Winter Fair this week and dairy farmers from across Victoria and interstate gathered to showcase the best of their cattle.

The event, held from Tuesday to Thursday, saw a little over 200 Holstein cows and heifers showcased before judges Lisa McCay, Irrewillipe, and Emily Robins, Cohuna.

Exhibitors competed in a junior, intermediate and senior championship, with three supreme champions sashed during proceedings.

The fair, usually held the first week of the school holidays, was a week earlier this year to avoid being too close to the Australian Sheep & Wool Show.

However, the event was still very much a family affair, with junior handler competitions an important part.

Outside of the formal judging proceedings, there were many young people involved in the preparation of each stud's show team.

Stock & Land was on the ground to chat to farmers and snap up all the action.

After a year of doing it tough in the dry, many were delighted to have a few days off farm to show their cattle and catch up with friends.
