Volume buyers support Tyler Angus and Hillview Herefords with multiple top prices

A mixture of new and loyal clients were present at the eighth Tyler Angus and Hillview Hereford sale held Saturday, June 21, near Tyringham.
Both breeds resulted in multiple bulls achieving the top prices of $7000 for the Angus and $5500 for the Herefords.
Six bulls reached the top price for the Hereford portion of the draft, with 14 of 20 bulls averaging $5067, while 16 of 18 Angus bulls averaged $5571.
Purchased by Grande Crest Black Angus of Rushforth, South Grafton, Tyler Ultra Star U059 was one of the equal top-priced bulls for the Angus draft of the catalogue.
By Narranmore S23, the 20-month-old weighed 608 kilograms and measured a scrotal circumference of 37 centimetres.
He recorded a net feed intake estimated progeny difference (EPD) figure of -0.36, placing him in the top five per cent of the breed, as well as a retail beef yield figure of +0.9, ranking him in the top 23pc.
Tyler Ulladulla U002 was the other equal top-priced Angus bull, purchased by GC and SC Warwick, Comara, north west of Kempsey.
The 27-month-old bull, 684kg, also by Narranmore S23, measured a scrotal circumference of 39cm, while displaying a net feed intake figure of -0.11, ranking him in the top 17pc.
Purchaser Shane Warwick said he had purchased bulls from the Tyler family and was pleased how the bulls performed.
Running 400 Angus breeders, Mr Warwick aims to sell the steer portion of the progeny as feeder weights if the season allows, while retaining some females as future breeders.
"I like the depth of the bull; he had a good stretch and a kind head," he said.
"He stood out to me."

Mr Warwick also purchased three Hereford bulls on behalf of Waterhole Pastoral, Port Macquarie, for an average of $5333, while securing two of the equal top-price Hereford bulls for $5500, both by Mountain Valley Ninja N080.
The first was Hillview Up and About U103, weighing 604kg at 21-months-old. He recorded an eye muscle area figure of +5.8, ranking him in the top 20pc, while also displaying rib and rump fat values in the top 35pc of +1.2 and +1.7, respectively.
Hillview Unpacked U155 was the second bull secured by the operation weighing 550kg and recording a scrotal measurement of 39cm.
The 20-month-old sire was out of Hillview Innocent M064, a descendant of Karina Chery Z8.
The other four bulls which sold for the equal top-price was Hillview Urunga U017, purchased by Mark Lamond, Afterlee, Kyogle, Hill Upperhand U144 was secured by Dr Nicole Saba, Nymbodia, while Hillview Ulysses U006 was purchased by Hilton Barnett, Bellingen and Hillview Ulga U046 was knocked down to JA Schaefer, Wards Mistake.
JA Schaefer also purchased two more bulls for an overall average of $4833.
In the female draft, Sharon and John Miles, Macksville, purchased four Hereford females for $2000 each.
Mrs Miles said the family purchased the females as replacements for some older females within the family's stud of 20 breeders, while also having 20 commercial Hereford cows.
"We bought heifers from Greg before and wanted to get some more," she said.
"They weighed well and they've got a good temperament."
The family also purchased Tyler Use U039 for $6500 with the aim to join him to commercial Hereford females, with the steer progeny sold as weaners, while a portion of the heifers are retained as breeders.
In the female draft, all eight Hereford heifers sold for $2000 each, while the four Angus heifers were passed in.
Hillview Hereford and Tyler Angus stud principal Greg Tyler said he was pleased with the clearance.
"There was really no dear bulls, but I think there was a lot of value for money," he said.
"I think people on the coast, where most of the bulls typically go, are feeling the pinch from the recent wet weather and floods.
"Our Hereford average was up on last year."
He said a lot of operations within the area had reduced their cow numbers due to the recent weather and current conditions.
The Helmsman auction was conducted by Donovan Property and Livestock, South Grafton, with AuctionsPlus providing online interface.
