If points were awarded for the number of bulls crossing north of the border after the Belview Brangus bull sale, Myall Creek, Friday's result was far more clear-cut than Wednesday evening's cliffhanger State of Origin game.

Overall, 44 rising two-year-old bulls sold to $21,000, averaging $8136, while eight yearling bulls sold to $12,000, averaging $7250. Nine bulls were passed in at auction, but almost all of these were sold after the final hammer had fallen. The clearance was 52 of the 57 catalogued.

Adrian and Megan Forrest, Bellona, Auguthella, Qld, bought the top-priced bull, Belview Uluru U297, sired by Triple B Quarantine Q388 out of a Belview Zorro daughter.

The 22-month-old weighed 756 kilograms, had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 119 square centimetres and carried 6mm and 4mm of fat over the P8 and rib scan sites.

The Forrests also paid the second top price of $20,000 for Belview Undercover U164, sired by Kulkane Ransom R28, out of a Belview Gold Rush N077 female. The 21-month-old weighed 778 kg, had an EMA of 125 sq/cm, and had 21 mm and 13 mm over the P8 and rib fat scan sites.

They bought four bulls for their feeder steer breeding operation, averaging $14,750.

The third top-priced bull was bought by William and Susan Pickersgill, Theodore, Qld, who selected Belview Umar U10 for $18,000. Sired by Lazy S Emperor out of a daughter of Telpara Hills Lazarus 541G29.

U10's EBVs contained a top five pc ranking for eye muscle area at _3.4 and a top 10pc EBV for 200-day growth at +23. It's EBV for 400-day +38 and 600-day +44, were also in the top 25pc of the breed.
