Special tribute to local vet at Richmond Field Days All Breeds bull sale

A special tribute to a north Queensland vet will be a highlight of this year's Richmond Field Days All Breeds bull sale on Friday, June 13 at the Richmond Racecourse.
Being held in conjunction with the annual Richmond Field Days and Races, the sale has this year attracted 43 quality sires representing six breeds, with Lot 1, Barronessa Voyager U62, being auctioned as a tribute to a Richmond local, Dr John Hosie, who died in a tragic accident last year.
The 20-month-old Brangus Ultrablack bull has been donated by the Strazzeri family of Barronessa, Atherton, and Elders North Queensland stud stock agent, Anthony Ball, said all proceeds from the sale of Voyager would go to Angel Flight.
"It was a charity very close to Dr Hosie's heart. He was a pilot who wanted to one day fly for Angel Flight," Mr Ball said.

"It is for a very good cause, and all the participating agents have waived their commission on Lot 1, which I think will be a highlight of the sale," he said.
"The sale will be a good showcase of local bulls, as well as some bulls from outside of the area, and it's always a great day out.
"The genetics in the sale are very, very good with some excellent bulls. It's a great support for the field day and the community."
The impressive catalogue will include Brangus Ultrablacks, Black Simmental, Brahman, Charolais, Droughtmaster, and Santa Gertrudis bulls from participating studs:
- Peter Mahoney, Gyranda Santa Gertrudis, Theodore;
- Alex and Maree Power, Lazy A Droughtmasters, Julia Creek;
- Miles and Barbara Davison, Moondah Charolais, Prairie;
- Gavin and Jackie Webber, Triple E and Jegah Brahmans, Prairie;
- Tom and Elizabeth Baker, Woonallee Simmentals, Millicent, South Australia;
- Kelvin and Libby Harriman, GI Brahman stud; Hughenden: and
- Geoff and Shane Strazzeri, Barronessa Farming, Atherton.
Records fell at last year's sale, with 29 of the 30 bulls offered selling for a 97 per cent clearance, an average price of $7258 and sale gross of $210,500.
Mr Ball said he hoped for another strong market, with a very favourable season being experienced in the region.
The sale catalogue is now available to view on the Kennedy Rural, Stockplace Marketing, and Elders Livestock websites.
Richmond sale agents would like to extend their gratitude for the ongoing support and sponsorship from Gener8 Reproduction, Auctions Plus, Jim Pola and Allflex. For more information please contact Anthony Ball on 0428 275 499.
