Macka's Beef of Salt Ash has taken home the top-priced embryo package at the Angus On Ice Frozen Genetics sale, which attracted international interest and strong demand.

The online sale was run in conjunction with the World Angus Forum at Tamworth. The timer began at the conclusion of the Elite Angus Female sale.

Embryo packages sold to a top of $6000 per embryo to average $2292 across 26 of 34 lots.

The top-priced embryo package was offered by Ben Nevis Angus, Walcha, and sold to Macka's Beef for $6000 per embryo.

The buyer had the pick of four packages, and chose two embryos each from Ben Nevis Jean N238 and Ben Nevis Jean M30, crossed to Dunoon Sunstone S378.

The cows were full sisters and from Ben Nevis Jean H215, who sold for $82,000 in 2020.

The equal second top-priced embryo package was offered by Ascot Angus, Wandoan, Qld. Selling for $4600 per embryo, the package of four was out of Millah Murrah Flower R118 crossed to Millah Murrah Santiago S304.

The other package of four embryos selling for $4600 a unit was offered by Banquet Angus, Mortlake, Vic, from Banquet Quiet R329 crossed to Banquet Nuttella N462.

Semen straws sold to $275 per straw for a package of 10, averaging $126 for seven of nine lots.

The top package was offered by Mawarra Genetics, Longford, Vic, with straws from Mawarra Ultra Star U210, by the $190,000 Knowla So Right S48.

The catalogue noted the bull weighed 804 kilograms at 544 days on grass, with a 30kg birth weight.

The second top semen package, offered by ST Genetics and World Wide Sires Australia, was for Boyd Bedrock, marking the first semen to be made available in Australia prior to a September 2025 release date.

The package of 50 straws sold for $215 each.

Successful buyers were not made public, but Elders Studstock's Paul Jameson said there were about 10 registered international bidders, with a Canadian and Portuguese buyer successful in their purchases.

Mr Jameson said the result far exceeded vendors' expectations.

"It was an outstanding result," he said.

He said there was interest from across Australia, from large operations down to buyers who were new to the breed.

The result demonstrated the diversity and quality of genetics in Australia, he said, and he noted the work carried out by studs to have their animals complete the required quarantine to meet export requirements.

Having international interest was positive and the Angus Trek industry tour had allowed visitors to see plenty of operations in the flesh.

Mr Jameson said the genetics and female sales had a combined 41 vendors and he praised the organisation of the World Angus Expo.

The sale was held on AuctionsPlus and facilitated by Elders.
