Shorthorn bull sets new national breed record at Sprys on-property sale

A Shorthorn bull has set a new Australian breed record at the Sprys Shorthorns and Angus on-property bull sale.

Outback Sprys Foreman U218 sold for $120,000 via AuctionsPlus on Wednesday, April 23 at the sale at Ardlui, Wagga Wagga.

Australian Shorthorns President Peter Falls, Finley, confirmed it was a record on Wednesday.

The 980-kilogram bull was sired by Bell M Foreman 30A and out of Outback Ann P108.

Outback Sprys Foreman U218 had a 46-centimetre scrotal and had a number of Estimated Progeny Differences (EPDs) that ranked in the top five per cent of the breed.

Those top 5pc EPDs were docility at +17, carcase weight at +24.1, rib eye area at +0.68 and rib fat at -0.05.

The bull's yearling weight EPD, at +97.8, also ranked in the top 10pc while its weaning weight EPD, at +61.3, sat in the top 15pc.

Prior to the $120,000 bull selling, Sprys Phantom U74 set a hot pace when it sold for $40,000 to kick off the day.
