A bull with a strong, deep dam line has turned heads with Queensland buyers paying $70,000 to take him north across the border.

Glenalbyn Umpire U968 sold privately to Scott and Wendy Ferguson, Glenn Oaks, Nobby, Qld, and Luke and Carly Baker, Annabranch Santa stud, Wandoan, Qld.

The deal was made public at Sydney Royal.

Sired by the $126,000 Glenn Oaks Palo P1211 and out of Glenalbyn Priceless 757, the 24-month-old bull weighed 865 kilograms with 13 millimetres rib fat, 20mm rump, and eye muscle area of 135 square centimetres.

In the ring on Saturday, he placed third in the bull over 22 and not over 24 months class.

The sale sets a new stud record for Glenalbyn's Jack Courts and Eliza Whiteley, Wellington, who took over the operation in 2022 as part of a succession.

"He is a bull that I have admired since he was a calf for his growth, fat, muscle and carcase," Mr Courts said.

"He is sound underneath, got meat down to the hocks, deep, dark-coated and long."

Glenn Oaks genetics feature prominently throughout the stud, with Glenalbyn Umpire U968 descending from Glenn Oaks Jetlag.

Buyer Scott Ferguson said it was photos and videos on social media that first drew their attention to the bull.

"We were attracted to his dam line because she has quite a successful sire line," he said.

"It was the strength and depth of breeding in the cow line, which has a strong connection to our own.

"He has good colour with impressive bone, depth of body and softness with a good head.

"All that wrapped up with his Santa characteristic, sheath, and testicles."

Once in Queensland, Mr Ferguson said the bull would be used for an early joining with around 40 cows at Nobby, before heading north to the Bakers at Wandoan.

Glenn Oaks and Annabranch have purchased a number of bulls in partnership.
