Alumy Creek Angus stud prides itself on producing 'Top of the Range' Angus genetics run under commercial conditions and 'raised Tenterfield tough' on the NSW/Queensland border.

Located southeast of Tenterfield in the New England region, Alumy Angus is a family-run operation that welcomes farm visitors throughout the year.

Stud principals Colin Keevers and veterinarian wife Dr Lisa Martin, along with sons, Thomas and Lachlan, have been breeding Angus stud cattle since 1987, utilising the best of global genetics.

"We are very proud of our cattle and the results they achieve paddock-to-plate for our clients," Colin Keevers said.

"Our goals are simple - focus on the female and select for the profit-driving convenience qualities we want in our cow herd to thrive non-pampered under commercial conditions in a harsh environment," he said.

"We also focus on fertility, sound udder and feet structure with great longevity, and the ability to bring in a calf every year unassisted from two years of age - no excuses."

Mr Keevers said they produced and offered for sale industry-relevant Angus bulls that were quiet, good-tempered, heavy-muscled, and easy-fleshing cattle.

"The bulls are easy to work with and will sire calves that weigh on the scales because our clients get paid on weight, yield, and carcase quality. Our cattle are bred 'Tenterfield tough' selling across four states to thrive in conditions from Cape York down to southern Victoria and South Australia.

"Our clients consistently remark on their easy doing ability, and our cattle have been foundation breeding stock for many Angus studs."

Mr Keevers said they were pleased to be named a 2024 TOP STUD after a comprehensive benchmarking review of their herds' performance datasets by Bush Agribusiness.

"With only 237 studs covering all breeds across Australia making the final grade, we were pleased to have our passion for Herd Book Registered (HBR) stud Angus cattle and strict breeding and selection decisions made over the past 40 years validated.

"We continue to strive for balanced performance, phenotype and profit in our Angus genetics with the review confirming consistent superior breed performance over all the Angus $ Selection Indexes."

Mr Keevers said they joined 300 HBR females annually by Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination(FTAI) techniques with their cow herd having 8-10 generations of proven elite Angus sires in their pedigree.

"Our Trilogy, Tandia, and Doris cow families all descend from Forres Doris U31, a foundation female for the Forres and Raff Angus studs. Our Applause females descend from Millamolong Pleasure C6 - a winner at the Suzuki Angus Beef Classic National Show - with both our Nancy and Jangle cow families descending from old Mundoo Naranghi/Grimstead foundation females."

Alumy Creek sells Angus stud females in an online sale in February/March and holds an annual Angus stud bull sale in May.

"This year, we will offer 60 HBR two-year-old stud Angus bulls for auction at 1pm Friday, May 30, on-property at our bull selling complex at Coldawinda, Tenterfield (situated just four kilometres from the New England Highway) and online through AuctionsPlus.

"Our bulls are well known for their calving ease and the curve bender performance and weights their progeny achieve on grass or feedlot conditions.

"With a lifetime of cattle production experience and having previously owned both a veterinary practice and a cattle artificial breeding and freeze branding service, we understand the profit potential of getting a quality live calf born unassisted on the ground every year.

"Lisa also has 20 years of current government district veterinarian experience providing services and advice to livestock producers, so we understand the importance of sustainable grow fast consumer relevant marketable traits and select our livestock for these qualities too."

Mr Keevers said this year they had a great selection of heavy-muscled, high-yielding carcase bulls sired by proven muscle and marbling performers, including the first Australian sons of, Connealy Big Valley, and their final offering of feedlot favourites and maternal maker sires, Mogck Entice and Ferguson Trailblazer.

"For those looking to add cow performance, don't miss the sons of LT Revered.

''We also have a terrific selection of calving ease heifer bulls by the LD Capitalist 316 son, RR Endeavor, and our first sons of the $200,000 Hoffman Thedford that will add carcase value to easily born calves for those looking to join heifers and rebuild herd numbers with quality sires".

As with previous years, all the bulls in the sale draft are freeze brand identified, have been DNA genomics tested, and sire verified, with full EBV performance records.

"They are a very even draft of bulls that will impress on inspection, with good temperament, and easy doing with added muscle and great skin. Bulls are available for inspection on Friday, May 9, or by appointment.

If you are travelling to the World Angus Forum in Brisbane or Tamworth, be sure to take a break in Tenterfield.

We invite forum attendees to find us on Facebook or contact us on 0429 431 900 to call out and check the sale draft over."
