New and returning clients sought good value for money and structurally sound genetics at the fourth annual Wallangra Angus bull and female sale, held at the Wandoan property on Thursday, April 3.

Wallangra Angus stud principal Margaret Whip offered 136 lots and sold 128, achieving a clearance rate of 94 per cent, an average of $4501.95 and a gross of $576,250.

Mrs Whip noted that the property received good rainfall leading up to the sale and expressed appreciation for the buyers' and underbidders' commitment to attending despite the wet weather.

"Considering the weather as we head into winter, we were pleased with the turnout," she said.

"The results were very positive, with just three bulls passed in and five stud heifers unsold, which we'll retain. Commercial heifers were in high demand."

Additionally, the Whips offered 62 commercial Angus heifers, aged 19 to 23 months, all preg-tested in-calf.

These heifers sold with 100pc clearance, achieving an average price of $1979.84.

Lot 90, consisting of five heifers in calf to Ascot Testament T302, sold for a top price of $2300 per head to Graham Emery of Wallumbilla.

Last year, 32 of 52 stud bulls sold to average $7220, while all five commercial bulls sold to average $5000, all 44 commercial heifers sold for an average of $2000/head and 21 stud PTIC heifers averaged $2500/head.

Mr Emery purchased 30 commercial heifers in total and was the female bulk buyer.

The sale recorded four volume bull buyers taking home four bulls each.

These buyers were JC and GM Worsfold, Wandoan, Todd Cattle Co, Mitchell, and Meteorborough Pty Ltd, Condamine.

Nutrien Ag Solutions' stud stock manager Dane Pearce said there was a broad distribution of bulls across Queensland.

"Bulls went to a wide area; as usual the Maranoa and south west were very strong," Mr Pearce said.

"We also saw good support from central Queensland with a lot of bulls selling into Clermont, Marlborough and Emerald areas."
