A good spread of old and new clients from three states purchased horned and poll whiteface bulls from Kirraweena Glenholme Herefords at Cootamundra on Thursday, selling to a top of $9000 twice.

Of the 21 Hereford bulls, 14 sold to average $6857.

Repeat, long-term clients Neil Fry, Cape Bridgewater, Vic, Dorothy Griggs, Braidwood, Graham Butt from Muttama, along with new buyer Paul McKey from Woodenbong, were the top lot buyers for bulls.

Kirraweena Urquhart U226 sold to Neil Fry for $9000. The bull was by Karoonda Warship Q926 and was the 10th calf from Kirrawena Miss Bradman G145.

His estimated breeding value figures showed positive growth and milk with +4.8 for eye muscle area and intramuscular fat at +1.

Mr Fry also purchased Kirraweena Ultan (AI) by Irish sire Trillick Hotspur for $7500, and a third bull for $5000.

The other equal top-priced bull, Glenholme Ulan U120, was purchased by Dorothy Griggs and was by Lotus Quadrillion Q114 from Glenholme Queenie M016 with positive growth and milk.

Mrs Griggs Dorothy also purchased Glenholme United U124 for $6000.

Commercial Hereford breeder Paul McKey made the trip from Woodenbong, on the Queensland border, and took home three horned sires to average $6333, paying to a top of $7000, twice, for Kirraweena Ultra U236 and Kirraweena University. Mr McKey was also the underbidder on the two top-selling lots.

Best-selling homozygous Poll Hereford bull was Glenholme Ureka U169, by Kerlson Pines Nardoo P014, 21 months, from a Glenholme Doreen, which attracted the bid of $7500, purchased by the Butt family, along with Glenholme Upturn U131 for $6500.

Other bulls were purchased by buyers from Harden, Yass, Murrumbateman and Tasmania,

Of the 28 heifer lots, averaging $1996, the tops sold to $2650 a head to Dennis Griggs, Braidwood.

The volume buyer on 19 heifers was commercial Hereford breeder John Smith, also from Woodenbong, who told his wife Maree before driving south that he was only going down to Cootamundra to "take a look".

"They're good quality, nice feminine type, milky, with terrific markings and eye pigmentation," Mr Smith said.

Kirraweena Glenholme Herefords' stud principal Geoff Bush said he was happy with the outcome.

"We're happy with the traits expressed in our bulls," he said.

"They will fatten at any stage, our cattle milk well. They have good temperament and colour and are attractive to commercial producers, feedlots and studs."

The sale was hosted by Nutrien Livestock and Holman Tolmie Pty Ltd with AuctionsPlus handling the online action. Tim Woodham and Steve Tolmie shared the auctioneering.
