Le Martres Poll Limousin sells to repeat, long-term clients

A good roll-up of repeat clients to Le Martres Poll Limousin bull sale on Friday defied back-to-back dry seasons to record consistent prices and clearance.
The stud at Table Top via Albury recorded a top price of $7500 to average 5450 for 11 sires sold from 30 offered.
Top selling black poll Le Martres Black Theodore, 31 months with a 41cm scrotal circumference, by Le Martres Black Panther from Le Martres Querida, went to repeat and long-term customer Helen Heffer, Tarcutta, who will put her new sire to Angus/Hereford cows with some calves retained as composite sires.
The apricot poll Le Martres Shrek by Maestro from Millicent, 40 months, sold to Lochie Owen, Gundagai, for $6000 and will put him to Limousin and commercial Limousin content cows. Some daughters will be retained.
"We have six to seven sire families in our stud so people can purchase unrelated bulls," explained Le Martres principal Leon Martin.
Volume buyers the Wallace family, Temora, who run their own feedlot in addition to their cropping enterprise, walked away with three sires to top and average $5000, including Le Martres Ubergang by Maestro from Quintessa Sunshine.
Weighing 490 kilograms at 18 months the Apricot poll scanned above the breed mean for intra muscular fat, at 3.9 per cent.
One of the Wallis brothers' Le Martres bulls, retired at 12 years old, was killed and boned out at 62pc retail beef yield.
"We breed for longevity," said Mr Martin, who began with Limsouins 37 years ago. "We design our sires to outyield and outlive our competition. We have cows that are 17 years old and still delivering a calf every year.
"We design our brand of Limousin to be docile, with milk, that will produce calves that will stand up to any market specification you like.
A pen of 15 Le Martres black poll heifers sold for $1000 a head to Maree King, Yarrawonga, Vic, and will go back to the paddock as breeders.
A blue Limousin bull sold post-sale to Melita Palmer of Gayndah, Qld.
This 16th annual sale was hosted by Ray White Rural with AuctionsPlus handling the online bidding.
