Weeran Angus topped at $25,000 with bulls selling to three states at their on-property sale at Byaduk on Tuesday.

In total, 53 bulls sold from 70 offered for an average of $8567 and a top price of $25,000.

Weeran stud principal Alec Moore said the conditions in south-west Victoria have been challenging but repeat clients showed confidence in the program.

"So many people have burnt a lot of money already," Mr Moore said.

"There's no feed, no water, and a lot of stock have already left the district so I was realistic the sale was going to be tough-ish.

"It's not easy down here at the moment so we were happy to sell the number of bulls we did."

The top-priced bull was Lot 3 Weeran Uppercut VHW23U36.

The bull was bought by returning local clients David and Margaret Pevitt, Warrong, who have been purchasing Weeran bulls for the last seven years for their commercial herd.

"We keep going back to Weeran because their bulls are so lovely and quiet and good to handle," Ms Pevitt said.

"He ticked all the boxes we were looking for for our program."

The Pevitt's said the year had been one of the worst for their operation that they had seen with no sub-soil moisture.

"But we need to keep improving the herd for when the market improves," Ms Pevitt said of their purchase.

Mr Moore said the sale-topper was "an absolute tank with huge capacity and thickness" with huge growth and a large frame with a very, nice soft muscle pattern.

The bull boasted large growth figures with 200, 400 and 600-day weights all in the top 5 per cent of the breed, and carcase weight figures in the top 3pc.

The bull's sire is Sterling Pacific who is a new sire in the Weeran program and has bred well for the stud.

Sterling Pacific was the lead reference sire of the sale with nine sons averaging $10,667.

The second top-price of the sale was $16,000 for Lot 5 Weeran Usain VHW23U143 who was bought as one of three by returning clients the Lewis family, Hawkesdale.

"They have been purchasing the top line of the Weeran bulls for the last 17 years," Mr Moore said.

The two year-old bull is sired by Witherswood Bronc who sired six bulls in the catalogue which averaged $8333.

Bulls sold to three states including South Australia and NSW, and across Victoria with clients in the south-west, Hamilton, Gippsland and the northeast.

Volume buyers included Wardor Run, Bungador, Nareen Station, Nareen, Roo Park Pastoral, Telangatuk East, Murroa East Pastoral, Hamilton, P and J Lewis, Hawkesdale, and the Armit family, Swifts Creek.
