Canberra Royal 2025: Shorthorn breed judging results
A Victorian breeder new to Shorthorns came out on top during the judging at the 2025 Royal Canberra Show.
AJM Pattie, exhibited by Cherrylock Cattle Co, Tallygaroopna, Vic, was crowned grand champion Shorthorn female, under the eye of judge Geordie Elliot, GC Livestock Black Simmentals, Hamilton, Vic.
The two-and-a-half-year-old cow with calf at foot was sired by AJM Replicate R135 and out of Sprys Buddy's Pattie N20.
Jessica Gavenlock, Cherrylock, said she had purchased the cow ANZAC day last year from Ash Morris, AJM Shorthorns, Young, and was only new to breeding Shorthorns.
"I bought three head off of her and this girl has been good for me - she's won numerous champions around the place," she said.
"She won reserve supreme champion female at Melbourne Royal last October.
"I love her strength, she's an easydoing cow, and I love her femininity."
Ms Gavenlock said Pattie was back in calf.
Mr Elliot said the grand champion female "encapsulated everything about a Shorthorn cow".
AJM Pattie was the senior champion female, before taking the grand champion title ahead of junior champion AJM Jeda Express U139, also exhibited by Cherrylock Cattle Co.
The 17-month-old heifer was sired by Eloora Gunner R10 and out of AJM Jeda Express R137.
Mr Elliot said she had "all the attributes we want to see".
"There's so much strength, beautiful feet and leg structure and a big strong top," he said.
"A maternal look the whole way through and a good udder."
The reserve junior champion female was awarded to Spencer Family Augusta Fool, exhibited by David and Marion Spencer, Rutherglen, Victoria.
The 18-month-old heifer was sired by Sprys Crackerjack and out of Spencer Family Patsy's April Fool.

Grand champion female: AJM Pattie T121, exhibited by Cherrylock Cattle Co, Tallygaroopna, Vic.
