Tattykeel reaches top price twice at southern sale

The top price was reached twice at Tattykeel's southern NSW Australian White sale held at Tarcutta on Wednesday, with repeat NSW and Victorian buyers strong.
All seven stud rams sold to a top of $17,000, twice, and for an average of $11,571, while 77 of 106 flock rams on offer sold to a top of $6000, twice, and for an average of $3435.
A total of 16 of 24 stud ewes sold to a top of $2750 twice and for an average of $2156.
The first lot of the sale reached $17,000 for Tattykeel 230843 which sold to Thornbush Australian Whites, Goulburn.
The August-drop ram weighed 127 kilograms and was sired by Tattykeel Fulcrum 221348 and out of Tattykeel 190865.
Repeat buyer Chris Holding, Thornbush, said the ram had a "nice, soft coat".
"He is well balanced, is nice and clean through the neckline and has good feet," he said.
Mr Holding said the ram will go over young ewes.
The Holdings run a small stud, as well as a commercial flock, with flock rams currently sold privately but are building up to having their own sale. They also sell lambs mainly through the yards at Yass.
Buying Tattykeel genetics since 2018, Mr Holding said the rams had always performed well and they were "kicking goals" with their breeding, particularly in the last couple of years.
Ross Gilmore, Tattykeel, said the ram had presence and type.
"He stands out in the paddock," he said.
The other ram to reach the equal top price of $17,000 was Tattykeel 231195 which sold to Aitken Australian Whites, Bundarra.
The October-drop ram, 126kg, was sired by Tattykeel 210279 and out of Tattykeel 211070.
Buyer Rob Aitken said the ram was a "complete package".
"He's got a lot of length and depth," he said.
"Genetically and physically I think he's going to produce some nice offspring. I went through all the rams, and I went through them a dozen times, and I kept coming back to him - he stood out."
The ram will go into their stud where they run about 200 stud ewes and last year sold about 30 rams but are building on numbers with more to be on offer this year.
Mr Aitken said they have heavily invested in Tattykeel genetics and were happy with their direction.
He said they had gotten to the point now with their number of ewes where they can start culling heavier to continue to enhance their breeding lines.
"We're just trying to run 200 really good ewes," he said.
"We just want to breed good animals. We're not trying to produce hundreds of rams - if we can to about 70 rams a year to sell we'll be happy."
Mr Aitken said he was looking for "a good balanced animal with a good hindquarter" along with a stylish head and good topline.
Mr Gilmore said the ram was a really soft, true Australian White type with a lot of volume.
The equal top-priced flock ram was Tattykeel 230847 which sold for $6000 to DP and KE Mckelvie, Marrar.
The August-drop and twin-born ram weighed 102kg and was sired by Tattykeel 220018.
The other flock ram to reach $6000 was Tattykeel 230344 which sold to CA and TL Robinson, Gunning.
The April-drop and twin-born ram weighed 104kg and was sired by Tattykeel 210972.
The stud ewes on offer were synchronised and station mated with Tattykeel Carbide 230703.
Tattykeel 230268, sired by Tattykeel 220018 and out Tattykeel 210067, sold for the equal top price of $2750 to Trevor Bruce, Nathalia, Victoria.
The other ewe to reach $2750 was Tattykeel 230829, sired by Tattykeel 220239 and out of Tattykeel 220049, which sold to Coree Park Ag, The Gap.
Volume buyers included the Wilson Family Trust, Ozenkadnook, Vic, who purchased 10 flock rams for an average of $3000.
Mr Gilmore said it was a pleasing result with a lot of repeat clients.
The sale was conducted by QPL Rural, Temora, with guest auctioneer Miles Pfitzner taking bids. AuctionsPlus provided the online interface.
