Brahman bull reaches top price on day one of February All Breeds

A Brahman bull reached the top price on the opening day of the annual February All Breeds Bull and Female Sale, at CQLX, Gracemere on Monday, February 10.

The opening day, showcased Brahman bulls and heifers along with Charbray and Charolais bulls.

In all, 128 bulls sold for a 63 per cent clearance and $5809 average, while 32 heifers sold for a 59 per cent clearance and $4188 average.

The sale grossed $877,500.

In 2024 the opening day saw 152 bulls sell for a 76 per cent clearance, $7086 average, while 52 heifers sold for a 79pc clearance, $4750 average and $18,000 top.

On Monday, sale openers the Brahman breed saw 52 bulls top $20,000 to average $5077 for a 53 per cent clearance at auction. Last year 67 Brahman bulls topped at $40,000, averaging $7090 for an 83 per cent clearance at auction.

Thirty-two Brahman females sold to a top of $8000 setting a $4188 average to clear 59 per cent of the catalogue offering. Last year 52 heifers sold to $18,000 to end in an average of $4750.

Forty Charbray bulls sold to highs of $13,000 on the path to a $5963 average for a clearance of 69 per cent at auction. Last year, the breed saw a top of $24,000, culminating in a 95 per cent clearance and an average of $7237.

The Charolais breed finished the day with 36 bulls selling to $16,000 to set an overall average $6694 to claim a 75 per cent clearance at auction.

Opening day honours at $20,000 went to the 28-month-old, Elm Roc Radiance 01/23 offered by the Kirk and Trail families, Elm Roc stud, Rockhampton.

The 868 kilogram son of the deceased Brahrock Raydar 6163 posted a scan of 13mm and 10mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fat and 145 square centimetres for eye muscle area.

Radiance 01/23 was a maternal half-brother to the industry-leading and internationally utilized Elmo Picasso 1023/7.

Taking the day's top seller were Taylor and Stuart Kirk, Hazleton stud, Gayndah.

Market topper for Brahman heifers was the $8000 SEE Miss Dreamwork 067 catalogued by Scott and Elaine Edwards, SEE stud, Ridgelands.

The 14-month-old daughter of Reldarah Prowler was from the Elanora Park Elamo daughter, MCL Dreamwork 1900.

The red heifer sold to West Oak Cattle Company, Tara.

Glen and Toni Zeimer, Cedar Park stud, Bracewell took Charbrays honors with their $13,000 26-month-old entry, Cedar Park Tucker.

The herd bull by Wattlebray Potential delivered a liveweight of 878 kilograms, a scan of 9mm and 7mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fat and 138 square centimetres for eye muscle area.

Taking the bull was Nick and Samantha Curran and family, Spenbar stud, Condamine.

Top selling Charolais was the $16,000 was the 18-month-old, Ashlin U18 offered by the Warner family, Ashlin stud, Moore Creek stud, New South Wales.

The youngster delivered a liveweight of 842 kilograms, a scan of 12mm and 10mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fat and 132 square centimetres for eye muscle area.

Securing the bull was Greg and Bridgette Ehrlich and family, Henchley Red Brahmans, Wandoan.
