There was plenty of interest in the UltraWhite offering during the Culgoa online ram sale.

The Culgoa UltraWhite and Dorper sale was held on AuctionsPlus on Wednesday and Thursday, with 20 of 21 UltraWhites sold to a top of $5300 and an average $2107, while six of 13 Dorper rams sold to $1650, averaging $1267.

Culgoa stud principal Matt Wood, Allora, Qld, said he was particularly pleased with how the UltraWhites sold, with a number of new clients active during the sale.

The top price of $5300 was paid for Culgoa 4216, a 95 kilogram, twin-born ram, by Culgoa 222659 and out of a Hillcroft ewe.

Its breeding values included a post-weaning weight of +16.19 and post-weaning eye muscle depth of +1.99.

It also had a terminal carcase production index of 156.77 - in the top 10 per cent for LambPlan - and lamb eating quality index of 146.05, in the top 20pc.

It was described as a sire able to help build lean meat yield and growth.

It was bought the the Curran family, Longreach, who also bought a second ram, lot 4 Culgoa 4237, at $3400.

Other stand-out buys include lot 5, Culgoa 4261, a 107kg twin-born ram, which went to the Bullen family, Narrabri.

Kennedy Family Pastoral, Nyngan, bought lot 2, Culgoa 4243, at $3450.

Agent Luke Scales said rams sold to Bourke, Cobar, Gilgandra, Cootamundra, Nyngan, Narrabri, as well as Cunnumulla, Dalby, St George and Longreach in Queensland.

The sale follows on from a successful spring sale, which had full clearance of 15 rams to a top of $7000 and average $3342.

Mr Wood said they had been offering smaller numbers at their twice-yearling sale as they worked to grow the stud.

The UltraWhite stud was established in 2020, while they also run about 2000 commercial ewes at Goodooga.

He said a big focus for their breeding was low birthweight and fast growth to turn the lambs off quickly.

He said they had been pleased to see how their carcases stacked up after entering the Ekka lamb carcase competition in 2024 for the first time and claiming a grand champion win in the pen of three lambs.

Mr Wood said while there had been less demand for the Dorpers, he was pleased with how the sheep were breeding.

The sale was conducted on AuctionsPlus and coordinated by Grant, Daniel and Long, Cunnamulla, Qld.
