Glendan Park to host two Beef Week field days for two breeds of cattle

Glendan Park will showcase its top Hereford and Angus genetics at two locations during Stock & Land Beef Week.
On Saturday, February 1, Glendan Park stud principals Alvio and Alicia Trovatello will welcome clients and friends of the stud to its original property at Glendan Park, Redesdale, and simultaneously, to their formerly Adameleuca Angus property at Kyneton South.
The stud will have 40 of their Angus bulls on show at Kyneton South and 40 Hereford bulls at the Redesdale open day, alongside some of their stud sires and best females.
It was the second year the Trovatellos had managed the feat with Mr Trovatello planning to do morning tea in one location and afternoon tea in the other.
The 80 bulls, of both breeds, will all later be for sale at the stud's on-property bull sale at Redesdale on Friday, February 28.
Glendan Park Herefords has been running since 1989 and Mr Trovatello felt the addition of the Angus component of the operation now left the stud ideally placed to produce top animals.
He said the Stock & Land Beef Week open day gave the family a chance to check in with clients, without the pressure of sale day.
"The reason we do it is to give people the opportunity to see what we breed and what we're doing," he said.
"It also allows people to get a good look at the bulls and females that we'll have for sale."
Mr Trovatello said the open day was a far more relaxed scenario where clients could ask questions about the stud's program and vice versa.
"It gives us an opportunity to learn about their programs as well," he said.
On those programs, he felt there would always be a place for the Hereford breed in the Australian beef job, even despite the Angus breed's dominance.
"Even now that we breed the Angus as well, there's certainly a place for the Hereford," he said.
He said straight Hereford cattle had impressive feed efficiency, particularly in grass-fed programs, and they were the type of animals the stud was trying to breed.
