Queensland's cattle industry has once again demonstrated its strong desire for quality Bos indicus bulls during 2024.

Of the top 20 priced bulls to sell under the hammer in Queensland in 2024, eight made $100,000 or more, a slight decrease compared to the 22 sold in 2023 and 43 in 2022.

The highest price was paid for Garglen Johnstone X2349, a 26-month-old grey Brahman bull that fetched $170,000 at the second annual Caryina Garglen Bull Sale at Bouldercombe.

Purchased by Kelvin and Margaret Maloney and Kelveen and Brad Hancock of Kenilworth Brahmans at Mt Coolon, Garglen Johnstone X2349, boasted exceptional growth rates and carcase weight figures.

Garglen stud principal Shane Bishop described Johnstone as arguably the best bull the stud had ever bred.

"We're really excited that the Maloney family bought him because they purchased another Blundstone son for $100,000 a couple years back and it's great to see him going into an extensive Brahman operation," Mr Bishop said at the time.

The 2024 sales also featured several other top performers.

Earlwood Riki, a Brangus bull, sold for $150,000 to Lindsay and Fiona Barlow of Triple B Brangus, Dingo, at the Rockhampton Brangus Sale.

In the Droughtmaster breed, Sommer Felix, offered by Daniel and Teneale Sommer of Sommer Droughtmasters at Maleny, sold for $120,000 to the Carrington family of Rondel Droughtmasters in Winton.

The Santa Gertrudis breed also saw strong sales.

At the Cardona Annual Sale in Blackwater, Canowindra X87, a 21-month-old bull from the Wolff family at Canowindra Stud, reached a breed-high of $115,000.

The sale also marked the 50th anniversary of the Cardona stud.

Additionally, the annual Waco sale saw Waco Umpire U172, offered by David and Suzanne Bassingthwaighte, sell for $110,000 to the Ayredale Pastoral Company, a property owned by businessman Norm Black in northern New South Wales.
