John Reen, the well-known studmaster of Karoo Angus, Meadow Flat, is being remembered as a true gentleman and an inspiration to many.

In a tribute posted on social media, the family celebrated Mr Reen's strength, passion and tenacity.

"John Reen wasn't just a farmer- he was a visionary whose life's work will leave a lasting mark on agriculture and set a benchmark for excellence across the board," it read.

"Karoo wasn't just a farm to John; it was his purpose and his pride. Every corner of Karoo tells a story of his dedication, his vision, and his relentless pursuit of quality.

"John was a man of gentleness, deep knowledge, and patience.

"He had that old-school way of nurturing, taking the time to teach, guide, and simply be present for those he cared about. In his later years, he could often be found beside Annie, offering steadfast support and companionship.

"It's a testament to the love and care that defined his life.

"His impact is immeasurable, and while the loss is heavy, his story will never end. It lives on in Karoo, in the family who carry his values, and in the community and industry he helped shape."

Mr Reen's Kelpie, Razor, was his constant companion.

Although he became renowned for his dedication to Angus, Mr Reen started out in the dairy industry, operating Monhaven Friesian stud with his wife, Monica, at their dairy farm at Eastern Creek.

Mr Reen also began showing his cattle to very good success, standing out not just because of the quality of his stock, but also his attire. He was asked to start wearing shoes at the Sydney Royal in the 1970s.

In 1989 the Reen family moved to Meadow Flat and it was there that Karoo Angus was born. The stud began selling bulls privately in 1994 and hosted its first on-property sale 26 years ago.

Mr Reen is remembered by his loving children Dan, Pat, Theresa and Annie along with their families and friends.
