Seriston White Suffolk ram sale tops $5200 at Avenue Range for a $1920 average
Summary
Repeat local buyers made Seriston's 27th annual White Suffolk and Suffolk ram sale at Avenue Range one of its best, with a big jump in averages. It was a Western Australian stud, Venturon Livestock, Boyup Brook, that secured the $5200 sale-topper, bidding through AuctionsPlus.
Overall, 111 White Suffolk rams averaged $1920, up nearly $500 on 2025 when 112 of 127 rams sold for a $1443 average. The eight passed-in lots this year were largely the youngest August-drops. With a much better season than the previous two years, many buyers extended their budgets, although there were still plenty of value rams at $1200 to $1400.
The sale-topper, lot 2, was a late June 2025-drop White Suffolk the buyers had followed closely since it was a ram lamb, impressed by the combination of exceptional structure and high performance data. He recorded a Terminal Carcase Production index of 161 and a post-weaning weight of 19.6, both in the top 5 per cent of terminal sires on Lambplan, and ranked in the top 10 per cent for the Lamb Eating Quality index. The ram was among a number of high-figured lots sired by Summit Park 230087.
In the final draft of black-faced rams, 10 of the 15 Suffolks sold and also averaged $1920, a substantial lift on 2025 when 13 of 21 averaged $1015.

The sale topped at $5200 for lot 2. Overall, 111 White Suffolk rams averaged $1920. The 15-head Suffolk draft sold 10 at the same $1920 average.
How much did the averages rise?
The White Suffolk average lifted nearly $500 on 2025, when 112 of 127 rams sold for $1443. The Suffolk average rose substantially too, from $1015 across 13 of 21 rams in 2025 to $1920 this year.
Who bought the top-priced ram?
Venturon Livestock, Boyup Brook, Western Australia, secured him through AuctionsPlus. The buyers had followed the ram closely since it was a ram lamb. They also bought the top-priced ram at the 2021 sale, which they report has bred really well for them.
What figures did the sale-topper record?
The late June 2025-drop recorded a Terminal Carcase Production index of 161 and a post-weaning weight of 19.6, both in the top 5 per cent of terminal sires on Lambplan. He also ranked in the top 10 per cent for the Lamb Eating Quality index. He was sired by Summit Park 230087.
Why did that ram appeal?
The buyers described him as a big, beautiful showy type with good structure that also carried Lambplan data in the top 5 and 10 per cent. The stud principal said the sire was a really well structured ram throwing his type through his progeny while lifting the figures.
Who were the volume buyers?
A Lochaber buyer secured 13 rams at a $2138 average, paying to $2800. Elders Lucindale took the same number for Brooklyn Station at a $1200 average, and McFarlane Pastoral bought 11 for a $1891 average. In the Suffolks, long-time clients Nampara Pastoral Company, Lucindale, secured all four rams that made $2400.
Is Seriston changing its breeding focus?
Yes. After last year's sale the stud sold its Suffolk ewes and is now focusing entirely on breeding White Suffolks, with plans to significantly increase the number of rams offered next year. The principal said the stud has the right type and quality and that the White Suffolk breed is well placed in the industry for meat eating quality.
How widely did the rams sell?
Seriston's White Suffolk rams sold as far afield as the Mallee, western Victoria and Bathurst in New South Wales, though the volume buyers were largely South East locals. The stud also reported growing stud interest, with breeding values lifting each year without compromising structural correctness or breed type. Elders and TDC conducted the sale.
