Glenpaen Merino ram sale tops $11,000 at Brimpaen for a $3745 average
Summary
The Glenpaen Merino and Poll Merino stud recorded a jump of more than $1000 in its average year-on-year at its 30th annual sale. The Brimpaen stud cleared 92 rams from the 96 offered on Friday for an average of $3745 and a top price of $11,000.
That was a substantial lift on last year, when the stud offered 92 rams and sold 80 for a $2675 average and a $9000 top. Bidding was strong across the offering, with the top 23 rams all selling for $6000 or more.
The top-priced ram, lot 18, was bought by Somhill, Warracknabeal. Sired by Lachlan Merino 118, he carried a 15.6 micron fleece with a 2.5 standard deviation, a 16.2 coefficient of variation and a 99.8 per cent comfort factor.
The stud principal said there were 14 more registered buyers this year than last, with clients chasing wool cut again while the market is strong. He said buyers still wanted wool on their rams but it had to be good wool, and that big, white, waxy wool made the better money. He described it as the year of the Merino, and hopefully the decade.
