Central Reds Droughtmaster sale tops $13,000 at Emerald for $7215 average

Summary

Buyers seeking numbers and repeat clients were the mainstay of the Central Reds Droughtmaster sale, held at Ag-Grow, Emerald, on Monday, September 28. The five-vendor sale saw 28 of the 38 bulls offered sell for a 74 per cent clearance, a gross of $202,000 and an average of $7215. Agents noted further bulls had already sold after the auction, so those numbers were expected to update.

By comparison, the 2025 sale drew eight vendors and sold 41 bulls under the hammer for an 82 per cent clearance, a gross of $289,000, an average of $7049 and a top of $19,000. The 2026 average therefore lifted slightly on a smaller offering, while the clearance, gross and top price all eased.

The top-priced bull, Strathfield Rawlins, was offered by Strathfield Droughtmasters, Clermont, and secured for $13,000 by Emoh Ruo Grazing, Middlemount. The 22-month-old heterozygous polled bull was sired by Carnudge Kingsman and out of Strathfield Carol 89. It weighed 891 kilograms with P8 and rib fat of 14 and 11 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 128 square centimetres, a scrotal circumference of 41 centimetres and an intramuscular fat reading of 6.8 per cent. The same buyer took a second Strathfield herd bull at $11,000.

Lucky Downs Grazing was the largest volume buyer with seven bulls. TopX conducted the sale, interfaced with Stocklive.
