Bowmont Angus bull sale tops $18,000 twice at Tatyoon for $9511 average

Summary

The Bowmont Angus bull sale at Tatyoon sold 45 of the 61 Angus bulls offered on Thursday, recording a top price of $18,000 twice for an average of $9511. While the clearance rate was described as disappointing, post-sale activity was strong, with six bulls sold immediately after the auction and a majority of the remaining bulls sold since.

The first top-priced bull, lot 15, Bowmont Patriarch W057, was purchased by Merlewood Angus, Mirboo North. The July 2025-drop bull was sired by Tehama Patriarch F028 and out of Bowmont Elsa R091. The buyer cited an elite pedigree family tree and said the bull would be used as a mop-up sire for the stud's heifers following an artificial insemination program, with calving ease and a sensible birth weight the key selection criteria.

The second $18,000 bull, lot 40, Bowmont Shane W144, was bought by Wells Ag, Elaine. The August 2025-drop bull was sired by Milwillah Shane S23 and out of Bowmont Lubra T141, ranking in the top 5 per cent of the breed for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight, the top 9 per cent for scrotal and the top 25 per cent for docility.

Five Victorian-based clients each bought four bulls, including Nareen Station, Chatsworth House, Mahkwallok East, Eurambeen East and Maranoa. The stud focuses on breeding easy-doing, moderate-maturity animals with good carcase traits.
