Best of the West Charolais sale tops $22,000 at Blackall QLD

Summary

Having good bulls for sale within the region was a major draw for buyers at the inaugural Best of the West Charolais bull sale at Blackall on September 28. The seven-vendor sale was affected by the declining season in western Queensland, with 26 of the 48 bulls offered selling under the hammer for a 54 per cent clearance and an average of $8576.

The Charolais portion returned similar figures, with 20 of 37 bulls selling, also a 54 per cent clearance, for an average of $8900. Those bulls went to buyers from Charleville, Blackall, Boulia, Alpha, Jericho, Aramac, Muttaburra, Hughenden and Isisford. Mountain Valley Angus offered 11 bulls and sold six, also 54 per cent, for an average of $6500.

The top price of $22,000 was paid by Beauford Pastoral Company, Alpha, for Mountview Vancouver V60, a homozygous polled bull sired by Palgrove Eclipse E302E. The 24-month-old weighed 1050 kilograms with P8 and rib scans of 10 and 8 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 150 square centimetres, intramuscular fat of 5.4 per cent, a 42-centimetre scrotal circumference and semen motility of 70 per cent.

Mountview Charolais filled a large proportion of the catalogue, selling 14 of its 15 bulls for an $8857 average. Lilydale Charolais sold all five offered at a $9200 average. GDL conducted the sale.
