Kinsela Agriculture’s Next Chapter Awaits
Substantial, Diversified + Highly Regarded Farming Business For Sale
After 12 years of building Kinsela Agriculture into a substantial, diversified and highly regarded farming business, Marty and Helen Kinsela have made the difficult decision to sell their 1,515-hectare farming aggregation and reposition the business for its next chapter.
This is a story of growth, resilience, continual adaptation and the realisation that sometimes to build requires the courage to change direction.
Marty and Helen intend to continue farming and build the business, with the focus now on creating a strong and flexible platform for themselves and the next generation.

Marty Kinsela was born and rained in Canowindra leaving school at 16 to work in the family farming business. In 2012, Marty and Helen began the process of taking responsibility for building their own agricultural future.
The transition was completed in 2014 when they established Kinsela Agriculture and took responsibility for two properties. They began with 1,700 hectares across owned, leased and share-farmed country.
Over the following 12 years they have built the business to 2,500-2,700 hectares at various stages, investing in modern machinery, infrastructure and technology; introducing minimum-tillage and modern agronomic practices; and following increasingly sophisticated business modelling, benchmarking, budgeting and performance analysis.

In the process they created a highly productive broadacre cropping enterprise; commercialised the hay and fodder enterprise through Belubula Valley Hay; developed a cattle enterprise that has evolved from breeding and finishing into a more focused trading operation; and built contracting and transport capabilities.
The philosophy has been consistent: use the land for its best purpose, continually improve, measure performance, adopt better practices and technology, and ensure each part of the business delivers an appropriate commercial return.
A Farming Business Built Around Adaptation
The business has experienced significant adversity, including the 2017-20 drought and the 2022 floods, but has continued to evolve.

During the drought, for example, Kinsela Agriculture was able to use its established hay-making capability, transport network and customer base to turn crops that were unlikely to produce a viable grain or oilseed harvest into fodder. Rather than simply accepting the loss, the business pivoted. That generated turnover during difficult seasons and helped preserve the overall viability of the business.
It is representative of a philosophy that has guided Marty and Helen throughout their ownership: “Quitting is never an option. Finding alternate ways through the hard stuff is what’s required,” they say.
Recognised Farming Performance
Marty and Helen’s approach has received recognition over many years for production and farming performance. Marty was one of three national finalists in the 2015 Australian Farmer of the Year — Grain Grower category.

Kinsela Agriculture has also had consistent success in local crop competitions across wheat and canola, progressing to regional/state-level competition and placing third in the NSW Regional Championship Dryland Field Wheat Competition in 2020.
The recognition reflects a broader commitment to continual improvement, agronomy, soil health, efficient machinery use, technology and producing consistently high-quality crops, hay and livestock.
