According to the just-released Regional Movers Index, produced by the Commonwealth Bank and the Regional Australia Institute to measure the movements between Australia’s regions and capital cities, its key local government areas (LGA) registered robust growth in migration in both March quarter 2022 and the preceding year.

Leading the way was the Glamorgan/Spring Bay LGA – including the towns of Bicheno, Coles Bay, Cranbrook, Orford, Swansea and Triabunna – which experienced 71 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth in migration in the quarter and 26 cent YoY growth in the 12 months to March 2022.

Containing the towns of Brooks Bay, Cygnet, Dover, Franklin, Hastings, Huonville and Southport, the Huon Valley LGA also posted a significant increase in migration, up 28 per cent YoY in the quarter and one per cent YoY in the previous year.

The Derwent Valley LGA – including the towns of New Norfolk, Bothwell, Maydena, Westerway, Ouse, Hamilton, Magra and Gretna, also lured a heightened number of migrants in the period (+33 per cent for the quarter, +1 per cent for the year).
