According to local anecdote, the property’s name dates back to the late 19th century when labourers clearing native scrub spent a night searching for a missing companion named “Tun”.

The repeated calls of “We Tun cooey” during the search are understood to have influenced the naming of the locality and, ultimately, the Parish of Tuncooey. While anecdotal in nature, the story forms part of the area’s rich agricultural heritage.
