The Daintree River:
A magnificent pristine river system feed from the 3000mm annual rainfall in the heritage listed Daintree National Park.
As described in Wikipedia … The River rises on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range within the Daintree National Park below Black Mountain at an elevation of 1,270 metres. The river flows in highly meandering course generally north, than east, then south and then east, through the rainforest where the water is fresh. At this convergence point, an abundance of wildlife congregate, particularly fish. The river is joined by two minor tributaries before flowing through the Cairns Marine Park through thick mangrove swamps where the water is highly saline; and then empties into the Coral Sea, north of Wonga Beach. The mouth of the Daintree River opens onto a giant sandbar that shifts with each changing tide. The river descends 1,270 metres over its 127-kilometre course.
The catchment area of the river occupies 2,107 square kilometres of which an area of 33 square kilometres is composed of estuarine wetlands. 
Access:
Access is via the Vehicular Ferry crossing to the Bloomfield Road, then onto a council gazetted road, 4-wheel drive only.
Private barge: Alternative access is via the Upper Daintree Road, crossing the river via your own private vehicle barge.
The 20-tonne capacity barge is suitable for the owners 28ft body truck and is used for transport of livestock, crop produce and vehicles, according to a 4-hour tidal window each day. The truck can be loaded with 20head/trip and so can transport 5-6 loads of cattle during the tidal window. 
Enterprise Information:
The Daintree area is renowned for its pristine rainforest, rich soil, and lush pastures. However, business diversification opportunities are plentiful.
Grazing is the predominant land use on the property.

Cattle:
The pastures include Hamill Grass, Hymenachne, Para Grass, Guinea, Brachiaria and Setaria grasses. Vendors trading programme facilitates a turnover of approx 500 steers-to-bullock per year with an expected gross profit margin of $500-$600/head.
 The current programme is to buy steers at 300kg and retain them for up to 6 months until turnoff… the entry weight and grazing conditions determine speed of turnoff and the best market ie. Meatworks or Live Export. 
This is extremely fertile country requiring little supplementary feed and no pasture fertiliser input.

There are 9 main paddocks, with a combination of troughs and natural waters. Fencing is principally timber posts, gal pickets and 4-barb with galvanised steel gates.  
There are two sets of cattle yards.
House yards - are well constructed of timber, galvanized & painted steel cattle rail with loading ramp and undercover vet crush.
Daintree Road yards – constructed of steel with loading ramp and undercover vet crush.
 When it’s time for entry of new cattle or exit of prime cattle to the market the vendors employ their body truck and simply drive the loaded vehicle (20 head/load) onto the barge and discharge directly into the yards, or via the adjacent laneways.

 Fishing & water activities:
For a ‘boatie’ this is paradise! The Daintree River has renowned barramundi fishing and is very popular in the dryer seasons. The mouth of Daintree River is within half hour boat ride from Daintree Island. The Great Barrier Reef comes within 20km of the shoreline whilst smaller reefs can be found a matter of 200m from the beach.

This marvellous part of the world is the gateway to the heritage-listed, Daintree National Park renowned for its eco-tourism, the world’s oldest continuously living rainforest, untouched waterfalls and hiking tracks, secluded beaches, Barramundi fishing, and picturesque views.
