Lot 88 Pook Road Toolleen, 3551 VIC
ATHOL'S PADDOCK - 20 ACRE VINEYARD
Located on the renowned Pook Road in Toolleen and featuring the Heathcote Regions most famous Cambrian soils, this vineyard planted in 1994/1995 by one of the contemporary pioneers of the Heathcote region is known as Athol’s Paddock and has produced a multitude of Heathcote Shiraz awards, in fact 4 Trophies and 64 Gold medals over 25 seasons, first vintage in 1997.
Cambrian origin, around 500 million years old, makes these soils some of the oldest on the planet.
The region is known best for its superb red soil with a fine structure overlying uniformly textured red calcareous clay soils.
With excellent capacity for retaining moisture and its mineral-rich nature, these soils are ideal for the production of top quality wine.
Sitting at between 160m and 320m above sea level, the region’s climate is dominated by the Mount Camel Range which tunnels cooling winds throughout the growing season. The effect of these air masses is significant and makes Heathcote unusually cool with the average temperature in January being a full two to three degrees lower than that of nearby Bendigo.
A fully enclosed 12m x 8m Colorbond shed with power connected is located near the front of the property.
