Bendigo Blue Ribbon 1st X Sale – 20,200 Head First Cross Ewes
The annual Bendigo Blue Ribbon 1st X Sale is presented by the combined Bendigo Agents Association at the Bendigo Livestock Exchange. The sale starts at 11am sharp on Friday 6 November. The agents involved are McKean McGregor, F.P. Nevins & Co., Elders, Ellis Nuttall & Co. and Nutrien, with sponsorship from Bendigo Bank Agribusiness. It is a premier breeders’ sale, bringing together quality genetics bred by local farmers who specialise in 1st Border Leicester/Merino cross ewes.
About 20,200 head are on offer: 12,000 ewe lambs and 8,200 1.5-year-old ewes. The 1.5-year-old catalogue is led by large lines such as 1,000 ewes a/c J & L Cartwright, Raywood (ex classed SA and WA ewes by Bungaree rams), 800 a/c Rostrata, Murphy’s Creek (ex Mumblebone blood ewes by New Armatree rams), 770 a/c J Roberts, Axedale, and 600 a/c Golden Wattle, Quambatook (ex Charinga blood ewes by Moola rams). Many pens are described as ex classed or large frame SA and WA blood ewes, or ex Riverina blood ewes. They are sired by well-known ram studs including Bungaree, Blackgate, Pina and Monmore. Most drafts are MLSD and OJD vaccinated, Gudair and 6-in-1 vaccinated, and drenched and backlined.
